Comcast introduces new products for Oregon and SW Washington region

Allows customers to view incoming caller information on their TV and computer screens

By CBR Staff Writer

Comcast, the provider of entertainment, information and communications, has introduced new technologies to bring together the company’s digital cable, internet and digital voice offerings with the launch of Universal Caller ID and a mobile application for the iPhone or iPod touch.

With the Universal Caller ID service, Oregon and SW Washington Triple Play customers can now view incoming caller information on their TV and computer screens. The company’s recently launched iPhone mobile application, is said to allow users to access services such as email, voicemail, movie trailers and TV listings.

The company said that Universal Caller ID service is available to some Triple Play customers, and will roll out across the market over the next week. This service allows customers to see who is calling while watching a movie or surfing the internet and decide to answer the phone or ignore the call without having to rush to the handset.

The Universal Caller ID feature reportedly displays the caller’s name and phone number on a pop-up banner on the TV or computer screen, and the customer can answer the phone or select ‘exit’ and go back to their favourite TV show or online activity.

Curt Henninger, senior vice president of Comcast’s Oregon & SW Washington Region, said: We are excited to launch new products that provide our Oregon and SW Washington customers with easy access to the services that they use every day while they are in their home or away. New features like Universal Caller ID and our iPhone app are just more ways of providing our customers with more value at no extra cost.

The company said that its free mobile application allows users to: check Comcast email and listen to home voice mail in one combined inbox; forward home phone calls to the iPhone from the iPhone, view call history and manage home phone settings; and synch all universal address book contacts to an iPhone or iPod touch.
