Software 2000 Inc, which develops client-server business software in idyllic Hyannis, Massachusetts, was looking for some Windows NT applications, and found just the thing in Chatham, UK. It has has acquired Time Open Systems Ltd, which has developed a suite of financial applications for Windows NT. Time will now conduct business under the Software 2000 name and Software 2000 will account for the transaction as a purchase and is paying about $9m in cash and new Software 2000 shares. The company says Time Open’s suite of financial applications will expand and complement its own Windows NT personnel product line, which is still in development. Software 2000 will immediately accelerate the marketing of Time applications in the UK and begin the process of introducing them on a worldwide basis. They are expected to be generally available in North American markets in the third quarter – about the same time as Software 2000’s personnel applications for NT servers is due to be ready.
