AT&T has announced the release of Synaptic Storage as a Service, a storage-on-demand offer that claims to provide enterprise customers with control over the storage, distribution and retrieval of data from any location, anytime, using any web-enabled device.
AT&T has joined forces with information infrastructure services provider EMC, to jointly develop and market the product. The collaboration is expected to enable customers to create a virtual private storage cloud protected by AT&T network-based security services.
According to AT&T, integrating EMC Atmos technology with synaptic storage as a service is expected to provide a business-class storage service that enables customers to use the AT&T network cloud to store, distribute and retrieve data as needed. The company said that customers will also be able to specify their storage criteria through a web-based customer portal.
Roman Pacewicz, senior vice president of strategy and application services for AT&T Business Solutions, said: The demand for data storage continues to grow at a staggering rate, driven by companies’ need for 24×7 access to business critical data. AT&T Synaptic Storage helps enterprises get a handle on these increasingly complex storage environments, while controlling costs and improving service levels.
AT&T is expected to introduce the service to customers on a controlled basis this month and plans to make the service generally available in the third quarter. The service is deployed in AT&T internet data centres in the US and is expected to be accessible by customers connecting to the web anywhere.
