WD enlarged its WD AV-GP line of hard drives by adding a 2 TB capacity to capture the users who need high-capacity data storage devices for large video applications, including high-definition ones.
The drive with WD GreenPower Technology available at $299 is designed to provide thermally optimised operation and significant power savings of almost 40% over standard drives.
It can withstand the stringent environment of the surveillance and security markets and fits for applications such as DVRs (digital video recorders), media centres, media servers, as well as surveillance video recording.
Besides, it is reliable as it can withstand high-temperatures and is also compatible in a broad range of AV products.
The company described IntelliPark, SilkStream and Preemptive Wear Leveling (PWL) as the drive’s advanced features.
Jim Welsh, senior vice president and general manager of WD said: Our consumer electronics customers require hard drives that consume less power, generate less heat, and operate quietly. Audio and video recording applications, such as DVRs, media servers, media centres and mainstream surveillance systems, often demand 24×7 operation from hard drives.”
