WANG IMAGING AND WORKFLOW PRODUCTS PORTING TO NT ON ALPHA

By CBR Staff Writer

Digital Equipment Corp and Wang Laboratories Inc have inked a deal for Wang’s imaging and workflow products to be ported to DEC Alpha systems running Windows NT; they will also be sold on DEC’s Intel Corp-based machines. Wang’s Open/workflow and Open/image software will be up on DEC Alpha machines running NT by the first quarter of next year. Wang will provide training and sales support, with DEC providing the systems integration. It should of course be remembered that Microsoft Corp is the link here. Wang has the Redmonder as a reluctant partner and shareholder, having won a lawsuit against Microsoft that means the company uses these products in Windows 95 and NT, in return for Wang giving technical, service and marketing support (CI No 2,644). And of course, DEC is Microsoft’s NT route to the enterprise. The Wang products are already available on IBM Corp’s AIX and Hewlett-Packard Co’s HP-UX Unix flavors.
