ULTRA NETWORK TECHNOLOGIES INC TO INSTALL UK’S FIRST GIGABIT PER SECOND NETWORK

Ultra Network Technologies Inc is to install the UK’s first gigabit per second network at the Reading, Berkshire-based European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts: with a capacity of more than 100 Ethernet-type local area networks, it is to be used to improve the interoperability of the Centre’s Cray Y-MP supercomputer and IBM 3090 mainframe; UltraNet has host connection and backbone networking at up to several gigabits per second, and host connections of up to 100Mb per second; network processors are used to off-load protocol processing from the hosts and drive the network; it uses standard protocols and supports connections to wide area networks.
