STORAGETEK OFFERS ITS 3380-TYPE TAPE DRIVE ON UNISYS 1100

Storage Technology Corp, Louisville, Colorado has now adapted its 4480 IBM 3480-type tape drive for use with Unisys 1100 mainframes, calling it the 4780. The company previously offered 1100 users the 4770 nine-track drive. The 4780 can attach to, and be shared by, multiple 1100 processors, uses 18-track, half inch cartridges and is compatible with the Uniservo 40 and IBM 3480. The control unit contains two microprocessors to eliminating bottlenecks and each drive frames takes two or four transports. A basic two by eight subsystem with two M20 control units and two M24 drive units, each with four drives, is $292,900 from the third quarter in the US. Systems Leasing Corp will assist with marketing it.
