STORAGE DIMENSIONS TO PURCHASE RIGHTS TO TALLGRASS’ WRITE-ONCE OPTICAL STORAGE PRODUCTS

By CBR Staff Writer

Amid predictions that the worldwide market for write-once optical disk drives will grow from 36,000 units last year to 197,000 in 1990 Los Gatos, California based Storage Dimensions has agreed to purchase the rights to Tallgrass Technologies’ write-once optical storage products and technology: the company’s main product, LightFile by Tallgrass, incorporates a write-once optical drive and a hard disk in a single subsystem; the hard disk acts as a caching mechanism for the optical drive, providing access times and throughput which the company claims is four times faster than its competitors; Storage Dimensions is expected to enhance the product line while adapting the technology to its own 800Mb write-once optical disk drive.
