In September, Moscow-based data communications services company Sovam Teleport launched Russia-On-Line, the first full featured on-line service to appear in Russia (CI No 2,743). The company says the new service is aimed at the mass consumer market and future generations of Internet surfers. Our target market is anyone in Russia with a personal computer, says Sovam Teleport marketing and sales director Jeff Stark. We believe the on-line services market in Russia has enormous potential. Russia-On-Line costs $35 per month which includes seven hours of free on-line usage. There is also a one-time hook up fee of $50. Russia-On- Line has on-line versions of magazines and databases from several Russian media organisations including Izvestiya and the Tvjordy Znak publishing house which publishes Commersant. Sovam Teleport is a joint venture between Global TeleSystems Group Inc and Russia’s Institute of Automated Systems.
