Milpitas, California-based Adaptec Inc is shipping a family of single-slot Network Interface Cards which it says implement the Asynchronous Transfer Mode Adaption Layer 5, AAL 5, protocol conversion feature and non-AAL 5 passthrough. Each board provides full duplex and up to 1,024 virtual channel identifiers. They are available in two product lines: the 25MHz Asynchronous Transfer Mode, for PCI, Sbus and Micro Channel systems, which runs at 25.6Mbps; and the ATM155, for PCI and Sbus systems, which runs at 155Mbps. Both come bundled with communications software that conforms to the ATM Forum User-Network Interface UNI 3.0 and 3.1 specifications for the private user to network interface, and feature local network Emulation and IP over ATM (RFC-1577). Prices for the ATM155 Network Interface Cardss range from ú656 to ú730, while the 25MHz Asynchronous Mode series list at ú256 to ú330.
