NEC said that it will provide Airvana’s HubBub UMTS consumer and high-capacity enterprise femtocell access point as part of its femtocell offering to mobile operators.
The company said that it will offer Airvana’s femtocell access point as part of its ecosystem of femtocell access point vendors. Airvana’s Femtocell technology provides a portfolio of CDMA and UMTS femtocell access points.
According to NEC, the Airvana’s 3GPP (3G partnership project) compliant femtocell access point will deliver interoperability with the NEC femtocell gateway including the security gateway, concentrator and the femtocell access point management system.
NEC said that it will provide a smooth transition of its deployed femtocell gateways to a standards-based gateway, connecting the Airvana femtocell access point to the mobile operator network.
Anil Kohli, general manager of indoor solution division at NEC Europe, said: “Our collaboration with Airvana is a step forward to our goal of providing a true multi-vendor environment to mobile operators. Airvana’s leadership and innovation in femtocell technology and standards is demonstrated by its UMTS femtocell which will deliver tremendous value to mobile operator customers.”
