MEMCO SOFTWARE TRIES AGAIN WITH AUTOMATED SINGLE SIGN-ON

By CBR Staff Writer

As expected, Memco Software Ltd’s taking a second bite at the single sign-on cherry – the first attempt crashed and burned due to lack of interest (CI No 3,116). The Proxima suite, which is dressed up as Proxima SSO – Single Sign-On – and a Proxima Manager offers automated user log-in with single sign-on to all authorized applications and systems. Proxima Manager enables central management of user account and resources in distributed multi-platform environments. Memco reckons the outstanding security deployment issue is the widespread adoption, use and implementation of an authentication application programming interface. Having previously voiced some doubt about the GSS Generic Security Service or Tivoli authentication application programming interface currently on offer it’s gone off to fellow Tel Aviv, Israel-based compadres EagleEye Control Software – a subsidiary of New Dimension Software – and licensed Multiplatform Control SA. Control-SA is a security administration tool which the company says enables cross-platform control of security policies, password synchronization, centralized alert functionality and real-time tracking and control of security information. It consists of two components Enterprise SecurityStation and SA-Agents. The SecurityStation provides the customisable graphical overall environment while the SA-Agent is the security administration agent that interfaces with the resident security system on each platform where it resides. SA- Agent processes instructions originating from the Enterprise SecurityStation in the structure and language of the resident security system.

Constant synchronization

Local security activities and events such as password changes are updated to the Enterprise SecurityStation in real-time, allowing for a constant synchronization between the RSS and the MultiPlatform Control-SA central database. At Control-SA’s guts is the USA-API, Universal Security Administration-Application Programming Interface, which enables registration applications – applications that require user and password authorization – to be fully integrated into the management system. Application programming interfaces are the key link between the security management services offered by the ESA framework, and the different security applications on all controlled platforms. Acting as a translator, the USA-API manages a gaggle of differing security systems through a single interface, the company claims. Proxima SSO comes with what the company calls a familiar desktop which is accessed via a single ID and password and supports authentication methods including tokens and smart cards. SSO validates user access by interfacing with the target application using application passwords, tokens, tickets or once- only passwords. Management of authorized user systems and applications is centralized for simplified administration. Generally availability is penciled in for the third quarter. Pricing is yet to be announced.
