MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL AND MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CORP HAVE LAUNCHED LIGHTER CELLULAR TELEPHONES

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co and Mitsubishi Electric Corp havce launched lighter cellular telephones: Mitsubishi’s DiamondTel 99X, which will be distributed by CommTech in the US, fits in a shirt pocket, and weighs 10.5oz – but includes internal memory, battery power indicator, credit card dialling, rechargeable battery, and the ability to be installed in a car in minutes; Matsushita’s Panasonic HP600 offers 90 minutes of active use per charge, and weighs slightly more than the Mitsubishi at 13.4oz; features include a stay alive function, which keeps connections open long enough to change the battery, and a system of locks to prevent abuse.
