Canton, North Carolina-based Primeline Communications Corp has set up a new division to market television internet access devices to Internet Service Providers throughout the US. The new division, called ISPTV Inc, has gone to set top box manufacturer MSU Corp for its Slipstream technology, which it will market under the ISPTV brand name. ISPTV has committed to shift 300,000 units, and will begin shipping the products shortly. MSU, a small UK company based in Milton Keynes, also has a deal with Zilog Corp (CI No 3,145). ISPTV says it has over 4,500 service providers in its corporate database, to which it will be marketing the new product. The company claims competitor WebTV Networks Inc’s products are both more expensive and restrict consumer choice in selecting an Internet Service Provider – though WebTV has just announced its OpenISP option, which should fix this. Five year-old Primeline, a privately held electronic commerce software house, set up its own service provider division in late 1995. The new ISPTV division is an affiliate of both Primeline Communications and Primeline Internet Services.
