DPF selects EADS DS to expand radio network for Brazilian Federal Police

The states in the North-East and in the South would also be integrated into the radio network

By CBR Staff Writer

Brazil’s Departamento de Policia Federal, or DPF, has selected EADS Defence & Security (DS) to expand the digital radio network of the Brazilian Federal Police on the basis of the Tetrapol standard in order to cover all the state’s capitals and the frontier areas.

According to EADS Defence & Security the existing system covers the metropolitan areas of Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia and Sao Paulo. In the current implementation phase, the states in the North-East and in the South will be integrated into the radio network. In the recent extension, the Brazilian Federal Police will complete the coverage in the northern and central-western states, especially in the frontier areas.

EADS DS claims that its Tetrapol IP network provides advanced secure encrypted digital communication for voice and dates. In particular, the integration of all unities of the DPF is to further improve its operational efficiency and its services to the Brazilian citizens.

Upon completion the network will be composed of nine regional networks based on Tetrapol IP with 27 tactical management sites, 100 fixed base stations and 220 independent digital repeaters to provide service around 9000 terminals.

Herve Guillou, CEO of defense and communications systems, an integrated business unit of EADS DS, said: EADS DS is not only supplying the technology for Proamatec, but is also contributing its system integration know-how. With these capabilities, we support the Brazilian Federal Police to deal successfully with the daily challenges in the revealing of corruption and organised crime.
