DATA GENERAL PREPARES FOR ITS MIGRATION TO 88000 RISC WITH NEW RELEASE OF DG/UX

By CBR Staff Writer

Data General Corp is paving the way for its forthcoming RISC products with a new release of the DG/UX operating system that should introduce a high degree of compatibility with the RISC products. The new version of DG/UX, which runs in native mode on the Marlborough minimaker’s Eclipse MV series of 32-bit minicomputers, is due to be available within six months. It is expected to form the basis of the operating environment that will be standard on the company’s planned RISC series, which is to be based on Motorola’s 88000 processors. Features of the release include multiprocessor support, and enhanced file system security, and Data General is expected to promote it as a means of preparing for the forthcoming 88000-based product line.
