CONNER, ADVANCED TELECOM AND OLIVETTI TO WORK TOGETHER IN DEVELOPING ATM STORAGE DEVICES

By CBR Staff Writer

Conner Peripherals Inc has joined the alliance being put together around Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA low-cost desktop Asynchronous Transfer Mode technology pioneer Advanced Telecommunications Modules Ltd, Cambridge. The new partnership will see the three pool resources to develop and market storage devices that can be connected directly to an Asynchronous Mode network without being attached to a server. Advanced Telecom’s proprietary technology includes switches, interface boards and multimedia file storage software, all of which can use unshielded twisted pair cabling. Conner will provide its high-end 3.5 disk drives, which it says offer the sustained data rates needed to support video throughput, and the San Jose company is demonstrating a prototype Asynchronous Mode video delivery system at Comdex. Olivetti’s Olivetti Telemedia subsidiary will bring to the party its systems integration skills for designing and installing such networks.
