COMMON DESKTOP ENVIRONMENT IS COLLAPSING AND WILL NOT RECOUP ITS DEVELOPMENT COSTS, SAY INSIDERS

By CBR Staff Writer

Insiders say that the pricing models for the Common Desktop Environment are collapsing. In one case, a particular vendor’s licensing scheme, which was originally set at $1m, is said to have been slashed to $100,000. Vendors are said to be learning fast they just can’t sell this type of file management software if they charge premium prices. It’s difficult to see the Common Desktop Environment’s $30m development cost ever being recouped.
