Big Switch Networks unveils new openflow switching test framework

OFTest includes over 80 tests designed to test different aspects of the OpenFlow standard

By CBR Staff Writer

Open software-defined networking (SDN) firm Big Switch Networks has released OFTest, a new Python based validation framework for testing OpenFlow switches to insure standards compliance and interoperability.

OFTest includes over 80 tests designed to test different aspects of the OpenFlow standard, said the cpmpany.

The switches that pass all the tests are expected to work together and with a standards compliant OpenFlow controller such as Floodlight.

The new framework can be run against both physical and virtual switches while it supports the OpenFlow 1.0 and 1.1 standards and the support will be extended to OpenFlow 1.2 and 1.3, said the company.

Big Switch Networks CEO and OpenFlow 1.0 Standard publisher Guido Appenzeler said the company has introduced OFTest to the OpenFlow community to promote standards compliance.

"We’ve been seeing aggressive adoption of OpenFlow by many switch vendors and we wanted to offer them tools to build successful implementations," said Appenzeler.
