Bay Networks Inc is to add four shared media modules to its System 5000 hub to provide 10/100 Mbps autosense capabilities to the platform. The new modular autosense software enables the System 5000 ports to automatically adapt as desktop connections are upgraded from 10 Mbps to 100 Mbps. Because System 5000 autosense ports adapt to the desktop speed, they are the ideal for end-user communities that are migrating to Fast Ethernet, or today’s mixed Ethernet and Fast Ethernet installations. The System 5000 10/100 autosense consists of two new 10/100 Mbps shared media host modules, a new network management module (NMM) and a new data collection module (DCM). The Model 5605P Host Module offers 24 10Base-T/100Base-TX UTP ports. The Model 5675P-FX Host Module provides 20 10Base- T/100Base-TX UTP ports plus two 100Base-FX ports. The Model 5616SA NMM manages all 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps host modules simultaneously; and the Model 5611-DCM Data Collection Module delivers RMON1 and RMON2 management. The Model 5605P is priced at $4,795 and is available now. The Model 5611-DCM data collection module and the Model 5616SA NMM will not be shipping until October and costs $2,995 and $6,995 respectively. The Model 5675P-FX which offers 20 10Base- T/100Base-TX ports and 2 100Base-FX ports will ship in November for $5,995, says Bay.
