3Com Corp is hoping to catch those users that expect to move to a high-speed LANs at some point but are as yet undecided about which technology they will use with its latest addition to its SuperStack range of Ethernet switches. The SuperStack II Switch 3000 10/100, offers modules that will combine shared or switched options to provide uplinks to Gigabit Ethernet and ATM. The 12 port switch can provide Ethernet or fast Ethernet links to desktops or aggregate the 10Mbps/100Mbps connections to offer gigabit Ethernet at the network core. Also included in the switch is broadcast traffic control, the SuperStack II Redundant Power System for fault tolerant networking; PACE and VLAN support and full SNMP management with RMON as standard on every port. The 12 port SuperStack II Switch 3000 10/100 switch starts shipping this month priced at $3,500. The SuperStack II Switch ATM Module is priced at $4,000 and will start shipping in August. The SuperStack II Switch Gigabit Ethernet SX Module costs $3,000 and is available in September. Additional modules to provide 100Base- TX or 100Base-FX ports are also available. 3Com has also announced price reductions of up to 25% off its SuperStack II workgroup switches. The 24 port SuperStack II Switch 1000 will now costs $3,500 down from $4,250 and the SuperStack II Switch 3000 TX – 8 port for $3,000 from $4,000.
