Tech Monitor’s European Technology Leadership Series, produced in partnership with Hexaware, is a collection of conversations with leading CIOs and CTOs about their technology strategies, challenges and leadership objectives.
For this first instalment, Deutsche Bank CTO Gordon Mackechnie visited Tech Monitor’s London offices for a conversation with editor-in-chief Pete Swabey about the banking giant’s IT infrastructure strategy and, more specifically, its journey to the cloud.
The two main drivers for pursuing greater cloud adoption, the CTO explains, are the ability to keep pace with the speed of innovation within financial services; and finding ways of to optimise, simplify and streamline processes still reliant upon legacy infrastructure.
During their conversation, Mackechnie addressed an array of issues, including the need to find smarter, faster ways to package and process data; balancing onsite infrastructure with a growing cloud presence; single versus multi-cloud strategy, and partner selection; and how best to lead a journey to the cloud across multiple business units and functions.
“It’s about first focusing on those business processes where we can add most value with cloud technology,” Mackechnie explains. “Through doubling down on those areas, demonstrating success, that’s where we both unlock success and get the wider business even more excited about what [the cloud] can do.”
