Vine is a video sharing application where users can create and share short films.

Founded in June 2012 it was acquired by Twitter in October of the same year for a reported $30 million.

Vine enables users to record short video clips of around six seconds long through an in-app camera. The camera is designed to only record while the screen is being touched, this enables users to edit on the fly or create stop motion effects.

Since its creation there has been several additional features added such as grid and ghost image tools for the camera, curated channels, and the ability to revine.

In 2014 a “loop count” was added which counts the amount of time a Vine is watched.

Recently the company announced that it was experimenting with letting users attach video clips of up to 140 seconds.

Stats as of May 2016 show that Viner King Bach is the most followed user with over 15 million followers.
