What is tech?

Technology is now part of the fabric of society.

By James Nunns

Tech is the shortening of the word technology, which is the purposeful application of information in the design, production, and utilisation of goods and services.

Technology has had a significant impact on the world, from the invention of the car and the first assembly line that revolutionised the manufacturing of cars, to the Internet and the democratisation of information.

Modern technology has gone even further and can now be seen everywhere in daily life from traffic lights, television, and mobile phones.

At the enterprise level there are technologies such as containers, servers, mainframes, high performance computing systems and numerous different technologies around cloud, big data, cyber security, the Internet of Things and more.

Technology forms the fabric of modern society and is essentially being used to solve problems from the enterprise level down to consumer. For example providing the ability to visualise data to better understand it and improve business decision making, or being in contact with friends and family more easily through a mobile phone or app like WhatsApp.
