What is tagging?

Learn how to classify online material.

By James Nunns

In computer terms, tagging is the process of creating a link that is associated with a particular piece of online content.

Tagging allows for information to be found more easily online as well as aiding the person who created the tag when revisiting the information.

By creating tags, websites and online content can be grouped together under the same keyword or term. This process creates a bookmark-like system online.

Blog users often make use of tagging to link their posts to issues that may be popular at the time. A keyword applied to a blog will be automatically tracked and updated by the blog software to create connections.
