Rebooting means restarting a computer.

This process may be either intentionally conducted by a human user or may happen automatically without the user being aware that this will take place.

Want to know when it was first coined? See next page.

Rebooting involves closing all programs and finalising all input and output operations. The rebooting can either be classified as soft/warm, where the system restarts without the interruption of power, or hard/cold, in which the entire power to the system is turned off and on again.
