What is PSTN?

The PSTN links local and regional networks.

The public switched telephone network (PSTN) refers to the aggregate of the world’s local and regional circuit-switched telephone networks.

This includes both commercial and government-owned telephone networks.

Parts of it are digital and part are built on copper wires carrying analogue voice data. It includes the networks running from the exchange to premises as well as the backhaul of the network.
