Pinterest is a social network that allows users to post and share images and videos.
Billed as a ‘catalogue of ideas’ by CEO Ben Silbermann, Pinterest is a free website which users need to register for in order to use. Images are known as ‘pins’, while the act of posting an image to a board is known as ‘pinning’. Pinterest allows users to upload, save, sort and manage images through collections known as pinboards.
Does Pinterest share your data?
Users can browse other users’ boards and then save individual pins to their own collection of boards. Many websites now carry ‘pin it’ buttons and links, which allows Pinterest users to pin images directly to their boards.
Pinterest is said to have 150 million monthly active users, as of October 2016.
Like other social networking sites, Pinterest allows marketers access to its users’ data. Providers such as Salesforce.com, Hootsuite, Tailwind and Spredfast currently have access to the company’s data.
