Network File System (NFS) is a file system protocol allowing files to be accessed across a computer network in the same way as local storage.
Through this client/server system, users can view, store and update files on a remote computer as though they were on the user’s own computer.
Administrators can designate portions of file systems so that they can be accessed by clients with the specified privileges. They may be designated as read-only or read-write, which determines the level of control over the specific documents the user accessing them is given. This is called ‘mounting’.
