What is Nebula?

The computer makes sure resources within NASA are used efficiently.

By Vinod

Nebula is a cloud computing platform developed by NASA.

The open source platform was developed to provide an alternative to building data centres, providing an easier way for NASA scientists to share datasets with partners and the public.

It helps NASA to better use resources, reduce energy consumption and reduce the labour required in procuring infrastructure or creating web applications.

Since many of NASA’s servers are under-used, Nebula allows the organisation to pool resources, using services only when needed and allowing these resources to be used by other scientists when not required.
