MR or mixed reality is the new industry hype about to hit the consumer market in mass scale.

Mixed reality is technically the combination of three different realities together. It includes real reality (the real world), augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR).

Through glasses, users can augment the real world and at the same time going beyond that by reshaping how real life looks like. This is done by used 3D digital models such as holograms.

Mixed reality is also very interactive with users being able to control scenarios by using hand gesture and voice.

Applications are vast and can go from anything like setting up a shop, to arranging an exhibition space, to bringing whales into a gymnasium (we are looking at Microsoft’s HoloLens here), for military training, etc.

The mixed reality market is one where growth is expected to happen at speed. According to Markets and Markets, the total mixed reality market is expected to reach up to $453.4m by 2020, growing at a CAGR of 75.2% between 2016 and 2020.
