Integration is about bringing different things together under one umbrella and orchestrating them in a way that they work together to achieve the best outcome possible.

When it comes to information technology, integration assumes higher importance as the constant release and launch of current and newer versions of systems has led to complicated IT meshes that need to be managed.

With the expanding size of data streams, integration in IT is becoming ever more important to ensure that requirements (from partners, customers, etc) are met as soon as possible.

Usually, software integration will see application programs share both a common database and an user interface, working in harmony.

The final result produced by a program such as Microsoft’s Excel Office, can then be important into or embedded in another program, such as Microsoft’s Word Office.

There are different methods to integrate IT systems. These include: vertical integration, star integration, horizontal integration, and common data format integration.
