What is Foursquare?

An alternative to big search engines such as Google.

By James Nunns

Foursquare is a mobile app which creates search-results based on the user’s interests.

The app is responsive to the user in terms of basing results on where the person has been going, and by responding to customer input about what they like.

Foursquare will recommend places for the user to visit based on such guidelines.

The company makes two app: Foursquare City Guide and Foursquare Swarm.

The City Guide, as expected, is designed to help people to discover new places by providing them with recommendations from the community.

 What is Foursquare Swarm?

Swarm is described as making a game of life, “score every day with real-world perks and bragging rights, like being crowned the Mayor. Stay connected to your inner explorer, be truly aware of life’s journey, and have more fun along the way. Live your life more checked in,” the company says.

Founded and based in New York City, Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai are the founders of Foursquare. Crowley is an entrepreneur who has also founded a similar app to Foursquare called Dodgeball. Jeff Glueck took over from Crowley as chief executive officer in January 2016 after the latter resigned.
