Email, or electronic mail, is the sending and receiving of digital messages between computer users. Electronic mail has been referred to as email since around 1993, although spelling variations of the term are common – email, e-mail, E-mail, Email.
Email operates across computer networks, largely the Internet. Today’s global internet email can be charted back to the early ARPANET, with email standards for encoding emails emerging as early as 1973.
