Digital future refers to the idea that all businesses will operate digitally in the future.

There are any number of reports available dictating the digital future of business.

But before it becomes a meaningless buzz phrase, what does digital future mean.

Starting at the top. The digital future is a world of what Microsoft calls ‘ambient computing.’ Just as today consumers are constantly connected, so in the near future businesses will operate in the same way.

Firstly as is already happening in banking and financial services, retail, telecoms and travel, every other business is building a digital future based on an always on connected interaction with every customer. All businesses recognise they must offer a personalised experience based on the actuality of the customer activity, history, status and ultimately motives and aspirations.

Can you compete in the digital future?

The second part of the digital future is what happens to businesses internally.

Existing workforces (senior and middle management) are already looking for consumer type performance from internal IT. And the millennial workforce is already choosing jobs and companies based the type and effectiveness of internal IT services and digital delivery available to enable them to succeed in their careers.

This task of delivering this digital future is in many ways bigger than that of serving consumers with connected experiences.
