Citrix is an American software company.

The multinational software company provides server, application, and desktop virtualisation along with networking, software-as-a-service, and cloud computing technologies.

Founded in 1989, the company offers products for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux platforms.

Essentially the core of the company’s offering is software that allows individuals of an enterprise to work and collaborate remotely across devices and networks.

When did Citrix go public?

The company first rose to prominence in the 1990s as a leader in thin client technology – software which allows remote access. Following an IPO in 1995, the company expanded through a series of acquisitions.

Between 2005 and 2012, the company acquired more than a dozen companies, allowing the company to expand into desktop virtualisation, IaaS and SaaS.

In 2016, Citrix and LogMeIn agreed a $1.8billion product deal which would spin off Citix’s GotTo product offerings. The new entity emerging from the spinoff was called GetGo and combined LogMeIn products.

The company is based in Florida and California and currently serves over 330,000 organisations worldwide.
