What is biotechnology?

Find out what biotechnology is.

By James Nunns

Biotechnology is technology that is based on biology.

It is the use of biological processes, organisms, or systems to manufacture products that are intended to make or modify products or processes for specific use.

Biotechnology often involves industrial processes such as the production of new chemicals or the development of new fuels for vehicles. It can also involve the production of new drugs, or in agriculture.

Frequently biotechnology is used in medicine and it also has connections into the interdisciplinary field of bioinformatics.
