Amazon Prime is a subscription service from Amazon.com which offers benefits like free shipping.

Costing £7.99 per month, Amazon Prime offers benefits which extend past free shipping and one-day delivery on Amazon.com. Also included in the subscription is Prime Video, Prime Music, Twitch Prime. Subscribers who use these services get access to millions of TV shows, films, music and video games.

Amazon Prime also offers unlimited photo storage, access to millions of books via the Kindle Owner’s Lending library, and early access to Lightening Deals. This last service lets Prime members access deals 30 minutes before other customers.

 

How many people are members of Amazon Prime?

Amazon Prime was launched in 2005, with the membership offering free two-day shipping in the US for a flat fee of $79. The service launched in the UK in 2007.

In 2014, Amazon announced an ambitious added benefit to Prime members – a one-hour delivery service. For $7.99, Prime members could get a product delivered in one hour, or within two hours for no additional fee. The service started in New York but has since been rolled out to major cities across the world.

According to a report from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, Amazon Prime reached 54 million members as of January 2016.
