WHITECHAPEL CONTRACT MULLER TO BUILD ITS WORKSTATIONS

By CBR Staff Writer

Whitechapel Workstations Ltd plans to relegate its workshop in the East End of London to the role of prototyping centre, and has contracted one of Alcatel NV’s many scattered computer businesses to manufacture its new RISC workstation in West Germany because of its planned expansion onto the continent and into the US. Whitechapel hopes to sell around 600 of the MIPS Computer RISC based Hitech-10 machines over this year but has a production capacity of 2,000 at the ComputerTechnik MUller plant in Konstanz, on the shores of Lake Constance. The 10 MIPS Hi tech 10 workstation became availa ble from Whitechapel on the January 1 and is aimed mainly at the OEM market. Whitechapel established a US sales and support office in New York six months ago dedicated to marketing the Hitech-10 to OEMcus tomers. The National Semiconductor NS32016-based MG-1 and NS32032-based MG 200 will continue to be manufactured by Thomson CSF in France. Just under 1,000 of these have been sold over three years.
