WALL STREET JOURNAL’S EXPLANATION FOR LAY READERS

By CBR Staff Writer

The Wall Street Journal is usually exemplary in its explanations for lay readers of arcane subjects, and its discussion of the task facing Fujitsu Ltd in doing a rewrite of IBM’s MVS/ESA: it likens the task to that of designing a new LP that will sound exactly like an existing copy of ‘Meet the Beatles’ (yes, the origins of MVS really are that archaic!), and goes on to describe IBM’s battalian of hundreds of programmers constantly working on enhancements to MVS as the modern equivalent of a host of mediaeval monks laboriously inscribing their portions of a religious text.
