Vodavi sells business VoIP at mass-market retailer

Vodavi Technology Inc yesterday announced an unusual distribution deal for its hosted VoIP platform for small and medium businesses with mass-market US retailer CompUSA Inc.

By CBR Staff Writer

Under the deal, more than 240 stores of CompUSA, one of the countries largest tech retailers, will sell Vodavi’s 6800 series of hosted IP terminals. SMEs also can buy it from CompUSA’s web site and call centers.

Vodavi chief executive Gregory Roeper said the company was selected from an elite group of manufacturers to sell its hosted VoIP platform at CompUSA stores.

Clearly, Dallas, Texas-based CompUSA expects SMEs will actually feel comfortable buying an IP-communications package from one of its big-box stores.

We’re offering small and mid-size business owners a solution never available to them before: the ability to select and purchase a comprehensive VoIP system from a trusted national retailer, said CompUSA executive VP of merchandising Brian Woods.

The 6800 series from Phoenix, Arizona-based Vodavi are VoIP phones that are compatible with MGCP and SIP. The phones rely on Bandwidth.com’s hosted Call Server to access features, and place and receive calls.
