The ability to receive information electronically on your personal computer rather than in hard copy form is a great leap forward – but it does help if you can press a single key (making copious use of the MS-DOS .BAT batch file facility) and leave the computer to get on with it: the idea that people might actually want to do that doesn’t however seem to have occurred to IBM Corp, and if you want to receive Customer Letters – such as the 200Kb plus of text that made up the latest PS/2 announcements, you have to sit there and download it manually, frame by frame, a process that takes a deal of time and leads to very sore fingers – and IBM reacts in amazement if you ask whether there might not be a program to automate the process for people that don’t have an IBM mainframe.
