TIVOLI QUIETLY ACQUIRED DBMX LTD LAST JULY

By CBR Staff Writer

Tivoli Systems Inc’s framework now offers management of relational database applications – Oracle, Sybase, Informix, DB2 and Microsoft SQL Server – which it’s achieved via technology it gained with the acquisition of London-based distributed database tools company DBMX Ltd, an event the company kept very quiet. DBMX received equal equity stakes from Tivoli and Oracle Corp back in November 1995 (CI No 2,879), but on July 1 this year, Tivoli acquired the whole company, buying out Oracle’s stake. Nothing was issued marking the event, and only in the last few weeks has Tivoli begun mentioning the fact in passing at the bottom of its press releases. The company is now working on using the DBMX technology to offer management of Sybase Replication Server and Oracle’s replication offering – quite a big deal apparently for companies who replicate their servers, especially web servers.
