THE WOLLONGONG GROUP UPGRADES ITS EUNICE UNIXALIKE OPERATING SYSTEM

By CBR Staff Writer

DEC’s VAX/VMS customers, worried at the company’s participation in the Open Software Foundation announcement, are amongst those customers targeted for the newly upgraded Eunice operating system from the Wollongong Group of Palo Alto, California. Eunice is based on the Berkeley 4.3 version of Unix, and enables Unix applications to run as tasks under VMS, as well as supporting VAX clusters. Wollongong says that the product is a good interim strategy for DEC VMS customers who are thinking about moving over to Unix. The company also says it will be upgrading Eunice to conform with the Posix standard. Cost for a four-user DEC MicroVAX is $5,000.
