SURVEY REPORTS SURGE IN WEB PURCHASING

There are now more than 58 million adults (16 and over) using the internet in the US and Canada, while web users now stand at 48 million, according to research compiled by CommerceNet/Nielson Media Research. More importantly for internet commerce promotion association CommerceNet, the fact that nearly 10 million people have made purchases on the web – a 50% surge since the last semi- annual report. A sobering fact revealed in the report, however, is that 54% of web users said they were not likely to make online purchases in the future due to security concerns.
