Stratus Computer Inc yesterday formally confirmed that it is working on a fault-tolerant version of Unix for its XA 2000 Continuous Processing Systems – and has followed its biggest customer, IBM, into the Open Software Foundation Unix club. Stratus sees Unix as a vehicle for expanding in the telecommunications industry and in key emerging government markets for fault-tolerant computers. The Stratus team has been hard at work since late last year in Saratoga, California developing a fault-tolerant, multi-processor version of Unix based on System V.3 and tailored for transaction processing. Stratus also confirms that the product will incorporate kernel code licensed from Olivetti this January (CI No 840).
