Software Emancipation Technology Inc, the Boston, Massachusetts- based development tools company, has released version 6.0 of its Discover software testing tool, the first to include its new ATFX Advanced Transformation Framework Technology. ATX, says the company, is able to carry out the analysis of software code based on its logical structure and context, rather than at the usual code entity level of files and variables. It can navigate and search complex tree structures and return with reusable fragments, dangerous constructs or areas of poor quality code, according to the company, which sees expanded application areas for Discover in such fields as Year 2000 compliance, quality control and security checking. Available immediately, Discover supports C and C++ source code, Oracle embedded SQL and PL/SQL, and runs on various Unix versions and Windows NT. Unix version can be integrated with common development environments, but on NT the company bundles it in with Microsoft Developer Studio. It plans support for Java in the Fall, and may add structured languages such as Fortran and Pascal in the future. Existing users can add ATX to their current setups, and analyze existing code. The basic price is $7,500 per seat.
