Sony unveils waterproof Xperia Z Ultra smartphone

The new smartphone is waterproof and ultra-slim with a lightweight body.

Sony Mobile Communications unveiled the new Xperia Z Ultra smartphone at the Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai, China.

The new smartphone is said to be waterproof, ultra-slim with a lightweight body and comes with a 6.4inch Full HD TRILUMINOS Display, powered by Sony’s X-Reality for mobile picture engine that offers enhanced viewing experience.

Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2.2GHz quad-core CPUs, the phone runs on the Android operating system (OS) and comes with 4GLTE, HD voice, 1080p resolution screen, 16GB internal storage memory with support for 64GB microSD card.

The mobile features an 8MP rear camera with Exmor RS for mobile that provides high definition recording (HDR) for both photos and film, and is claimed to offers a battery backup of 11 hours talk time or 120 hours of audio playback.

Xperia Z Ultra is said to be the slimmest phone on the market, with a body width of 6.5mm and weighing 212 grams with the front and back made of tempered glass and the OptiContrast panel fitted in to a solid metal frame.

The device comes with handwriting recognition that is compatible with any pencil and selected stylus or pen and also supports one-touch function that allow users to share music, photos and videos.

Additionally, the phone features a Magnetic Charging Dock DK30, which has a magnetic pin that allows users to place it on the dock with or without the phone cover.

Sony will launch the Xperia Z Ultra in third quarter this year globally.
