Nujira raises $20m to boost 4G smartphone signal

The British firm's chips could provide more power for your smartphone.

By Vinod

4G technology pioneer Nujira has raised $20m to ramp up production of its signal-boosting smartphone chips.

The company received the cash through existing investors and new investors as it plans to grow its envelope tracking (ET) business – the technology that boosts 4G signal as it is needed.

Nujira CEO Tim Haynes said: "Envelope tracking will shortly be a standard component in 4G smartphones and tablets, but we aren’t just focused on how ET can be implemented in the latest handsets; we are already working on the next three generations of our ET chips.

"The company is in a strong position, we have good traction with some world-leading customers and we have a compelling product roadmap."

The British firm is planning to open a new design centre in Santa Clara, California to focus on the development of next generation ET ICs.

Santa Clara centre will provide a base for local applications and operations support to US-based customers and partners.
