Galaxy S III smartphones sale top 30 million

GALAXY S III is powered by Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich OS and features 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED display, 8MP camera and a 1.9MP front camera

Samsung said it has sold 30 million Galaxy S III smartphones worldwide during five months since the company launched its flagship smartphone in May.

Samsung Electronics IT & Mobile Communications Division president and head JK Shin said:"The GALAXY S III continues to be a runaway favorite with customers around the world."

The company had introduced the GALAXY S III, the third generation GALAXY S smartphone, a follow-up of its best selling Galaxy S2.

Samsung GALAXY S III is powered by Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and also features a 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED display, 8MP camera and a 1.9MP front camera.

The new Galaxy will include Samsung’s quad-core microprocessor, 2100mAh battery and Exynos 4 Quad, based on British chip designer ARM Holdings Cortex A9 technology.

Samsung said its GALAXY S II smartphone, launched in 2011 globally sold 10 million devices.

According a report by Juniper Research, the number of shipment by the South Korean firm is almost double compared to the number of smartphones shipped by its close rival Apple, which sold 26.9 million units during the period.

Samsung’s smatphone dominance was boosted by its sale of flagship device, the Galaxy S3, with estimated sales of 18 million in the third quarter.

The company posted a 21% jump in revenue to $41.6bn for the second quarter of this year led by sales of its high-end smartphones.
